A transitional piece not fully 2D or 3D, the pivotal point where mechanics started to truly take root for the competitive circuit. Before gen-encompassing gimmicks were ever considered & buffs were given to many a previous shitmon via Hidden abilities.
I look back on what gen5 did as a whole & while it doesn't introdruce a major component at that point (base, breeding, abilities, physical/special split) it feels as though it was the pinochle of those put together, like the final product of an actual buildup over time.
