>>54116987She starts out as fairly conventionally genki, constantly telling people not to worry because she's going to make sure things end up alright. Compare her catchphrase "daijobu, daijoubu" with May's "-kamo" particle. The first expresses a devil-may-care attitude, while the latter expresses uncertainty or ambiguity. It turns out a lot of Dawn's initial personality was her being unreasonably confident in herself, and when she loses two Contests in a row in the appeals round (and loses a Double Battle Tournament alongside Conrad that she had no reason to lose aside from Ash having dumbass plot armor), she ends up gaining a more realistic understanding of the limits of her talent. With that comes an arc where she has to take a pretty hard reconsideration about what she is capable of doing, which in turn dampens her genki-ness (or whatever) pretty considerably. She gets some of it back when she beats May in the Wallace Cup, but her experience in dealing with the existential crisis rounds out her personality more. It's a good arc.
