How do you show a character is stronger? By having them display new feats of power untapped before, with impressive animation that sells how much stronger they are. Bad power level shows fail at this because they've hit the limits of what animation (or rather, what their animation budget) can show, and thus have to resort to making a character job as short hand. XY never had to do this. Alain was shown to be strong by having his Charizard legitimately show off incredibly strong and well animated feats. Every fight with Alain sold that idea. Leon vs Alain will not sell Leon's power, because JN's animation simply isn't good enough to show how strong the world's STRONGEST trainer will be.
