>>52763969I don't think it's considered a BAD defensive type. Skeledirge is proving right now that Fire pairs decently well for defensive Pokemon. Being hazard weak sucks though. It's weak to the best type in the game (Water) which is absolutely on any team looking to win. Weak to two of the most common coverage types on top of that.
I think we're too quick to judge type quality in such an isolated fashion. Types aren't just their matchups, they're their matchups' matchups. Note that Steel has ALL of Fire's resistances so why would you pick defensive Fire over defensive Steel if given that choice? Meanwhile defensive Grass will at least add a Ground resistance on top of all the resistances the Steel type on your team will give you.
