There's something about the simplicity of the Johto starters that I've always found appealing. They feel the most like creatures you could actually meet in real life while still being their own things. Many people don't like that it loses the leaf, but I like the idea that's its done growing so it doesn't need to photosynthesize as much and it can focus on spreading pollen.
Also, /vp/ exaggerates Meganium's difficulty in Johto. The Johto Gym Leaders are is so easy Meganium's line could probably defeat them alone by being a 2-3 levels higher. (only Bugsy's Scyther would give it reasonable)
I'm convinced if Game Freak didn't cuck the Johto starters out of movesets/good abilities they would be much more popular as a group. Why the hell doesn't Meganium get sleep powder in the games.
