My main issue with Pokemon is the fact that it has become absurdly stale. Here is the exact formula Pokemon games have been following for the past 20 years:
>Professor named after a tree gives you the choice of a grass/fire/water type starter. Now you must beat the 8 gym leaders of the region, surpass the Elite 4, and become champion! But watch out for the evil team, they'll be a minor inconvenience for most of the "story"!
That's why I respect Pokemon Sun and Moon for trying to shake up the formula with Island Trials, but they still fucked up with "We suddenly have an Elite 4, and now you're Alola's first champion!"
They try spicing gameplay up with stupid gimmicks like Z-Moves or Dynamaxing, but that only serves as a shitty band-aid on the broken legs of the franchise.
I want a Pokemon game to provide me with challenges that go against tradition, whether it be more Trials, or Gym battles that require more strategy than type effectiveness. Instead of an Elite 4, maybe have 16 of the toughest trainers in the region are holding a tournament to prove who is the strongest, with randomization of what trainers you get. Fuck, give me a gauntlet of 25 trainers with souped up teams to prove my worth.
