>>39747618Having Soldier 76 as a butch as hell man who loves men is actually very representative for some gay men. It not playing into his character in a way we traditionally expect sexuality to actually just says a lot about what we expect LGBT representation to look like.
Representation doesn't have to supercede actual characterization and no one wants it to. LGBT people don't want bland inoffensive characters to call their own either. There's a reason artists like Sam Smith actually have a hard time getting a queer audience while Grande is frolicking in them: the boy has no charisma. Soldier 76 can stand as both iconography of both Clint Eastwood-esque masculinity and a gay man, this isn't mutually exclusive, and if anything these two aspects deepen his character, not weaken it.
