For me, Lance will always be the best. His design is fucking awesome. He looks legendary, the cape, the boots, the flaming hair and THE MOTHERFUCKING MUSIC. I was using headphones my first time playing HeartGold and when I heard that theme... jesus christ. It felt like a champion, a true one.
Alder had so much potential, all wasted. He still a good design and character anyway.
Iris was complete random. It was so obvious that gamefreak put her as champion just to please the fanbase and try to grow her popularity. First time I fought her I just turned off my DS because I couldn't stand something so ridiculous.
"Weak" women and children don't make good champions. If GF wants that hard to put women as champion, at least put a strong and fierce one like Clair.
