Gen 5 was the only time they ever said they had older protagonists. Their ages are never specified In-Game, but the Manga has Hilda/Hilbert at 16, and Rosa/Nate at 14.
Calem and Serena are likely at the same age Rosa/Nate are at. At MOST I would agree they were 16, due to Emma also being 16. No way they're older than that.
But according to one of the old Anime writers, the characters are considered adults, with adult responsibilities and rights, as soon as they leave for their journeys. So they're all legal fám, go nuts.
