Everything after Gen 2 is nu-Pokemon when the series started to get progressively worse, because Masuda took over as the game director from Tajiri, who originally envisioned Pokemon. Gen 3 is when Game Freak killed the suspension of disbelief and muddled the game stories by adding all the mystical magical stuff. Legendary Pokemon went from just being exceedingly rare to literal gods of creation (that the player can somehow capture and control). The evil teams went from being scary mafia thugs in it for money to legitimately autistic retards prancing around trying to capture said legendary gods. Pokemon went from being a series about mysterious creatures that kids could imagine might legitimately exist in the real world to a generic fantasy series with anime-tier stories.
