>>50854480Few people cared for a very long time. But after XY and it's unique brand of Kanto pandering dropped, people started getting more antsy about Kanto recycling. It also doesn't help that these people tend to replay Pokemon games a lot so Johto using a lot of Kanto pokemon becomes more noticeable; a normal person will just shrug and use Kanto mons they didn't use in RBY and appreciate the stuff Gen 2 adds.
