Gen 8 was a bad game, but I can point to several things they did "alright". I liked the characters for the most part, even if the story itself was shit. The QoL was admirable, as was the streamlining of comp processes and the introduction of an actual ladder system. To it's credit, it looked good around 1/4th of the time. And to be entirely honest, even though I pirated it, I'm comfortable in saying that the CT itself is my favorite location in Pokemon from the past decade or so, even if I like Gen 7 a fuckton more on the whole. I can barely give any of the points to Gen 6 past QoL. the game's characters need no mention, the game also looked incredibly ugly in several areas like Gen 8. It didn't have a single memorable map in the game, even they were decent, it left no lasting impression. And it loses even more points for butchering my first gen, even if none of the stuff I said before applies.
I can see why people like it more, but I personally can't stand it.
