Arguably it's a little cartoony that it has white eyes, but I like Onix. Compare with Boldore, which, you'll love, is an ambiguous crab-geode monster with no eyes, offering therefore less accessory amorphous appeal than Onix. In the context of its concept, Boldore's design is more appropriate, whereas going by your argument Onix should have no eyes too. I'm sure you have an explanation for why it does, at which point you've just got to admit you just don't like it, there's no design controversy, people grow up and things change. What is always true is gamefreak stakes the whole kingdom on their designs being interesting. I guarantee you they aren't just picking up whatever they scribble down. That being said, I'm not buying the games but I still like coming here to talk about the pokemon, which people usually did here before it became popular to insist on some cosmic design conspiracy's threat to offend the past.
