People in it are connected to the world and are largely good, virtuous people. IF there are social problems like internet addiction, rampant escapism, and general terribleness, we don't see it very often. At least not from the perspective of the protagonists.
It's the kind of world that is organized ina fundamentally spiritually healthy way, in the manner which humans relate to themselves and society.
Also the romantic notions are appealing - adventure, indissoluble friendships forged in hardship and shared experiences, and the thrill of a passion-building hobby which requires skill and that everyone knows and also does (battling) - it's no surprise why Pokemon becomes the massive escapist fantasy it does.
