One more day until we find out how much of a role M05 Latias plays in Ash's farewell series. Will it be merely a flashback to old times, or Will Ash and Latias not reunite? Instead, if we're luckier, will she be there with open arms to greet Ash again? Will it be just a friendly hello again, or something a bit more deep, like the body language equivalent of, "I'm so happy to see you again! I wish you'd never left me."?
When I first watched Heroes, the part of the movie that was the hardest for me was not the goodbye kiss in human form, it was the scene just before that when Latias is recovered on the boat. Latias is in her true, vulnerable form, facing the loss of her brother for the first time. She has Ash there to hold her while she nuzzles into him. That part had so many feels for me. Then the scene after that, he's suddenly ready to leave and hadn't even said goodbye to Latias a final time because she had to run after him on the dock! Ash was never going to pause his dream to become a Pokemon master to stay with her, but the way he just left always hit me hard. I imagined that Latias would be a bit forlorn and hurt by that.
So in 2008 I started imagining what would happen if Ash achieved his dream of becoming a Pokemon master and his life could settle down or go in any new direction. Would Latias still be around with a heavy heart that Ash could be available to mend? I started writing True Love Never Fades to explore that... and I never finished. I kind of lost hope in something that would never be. But now we have the slightest chance that they may leave Ash's future open-ended enough to invite Latias back in. Even if it's only a moment of reunion and he leaves again, is there any hints or indications that he could return to her for good off screen? This is what I'll be looking for tomorrow and a few days later when I see it with subtitles. :)
