There wasn't much need to update between gyms since there's only one route, though a 5 level gap between the gym's aces is pretty rough when there's not much in between. I didn't pick up a Goomy on Route 14, accidentally wandered in the water and got a Stunfisk instead. I easily made it to Laverre, and fought some of the gym trainers for XP. Going into the battle, I was a little worried. Slyveon is tanky as fuck, and I didn't have any Poison or Steel moves to do SE work for me. For the Valerie fight I decided to run with:
Heady Topper- Just learned EQ, making him strongest Physical Attacker.
Plebbit- Highest Special D, has Toxic
Balloob- High HP, relatively bulky, and has Thunder Wave/Hex for boosted status damage.
Fight went like this
>Heady vs Mawile, OHKO with Earthquake
>Heady vs Mr. Mime, Reflect goes up, still 2HKO with Earthquake
> Heady vs Sylveon, didn't want to risk it, switched to Plebbit
> Plebbit vs Sylveon, got a Toxic out as it bashed me into red with Dazzling Gleam. Also got a Petal Blizzard out, Sandstorm was still in effect, switched to Balloob when it got hairy
> Balloob vs Sylveon, Manages to take a hit and outspeed for status boosted Hex, KO.
Second hardest for me, below the Grant fight by miles though. Glad I got everyone through, next up is Pokeball Factory.
