>>42226441>>42226494Yeah Pokken has been brought up a lot lately.
By skill floor being unnecessarily higher, I meant how do you really explain to a new player what phase shift is, why it's there, along with the confusion of explaining how you have two different movesets on top of everything else. Each phase is essentially its own game that you have to learn and understand to a point before you stop being a literal button masher. I remember playing it day 1 at a regional with some vgc/tcg friends and nobody knew what the fuck was going on enough to care past day 1.
For other traditional fighting games, you learn a character's moves, they're all available, maybe there's a charge meter, and all of the mechanics are instantly laid out, some even carry over between IPs. Between the basic 2d, the arena fighter 3d, which supports are good/worth using and which are trash, and phase shift happening mid-battle, all of these pieces moving independently all make the game needlessly inaccessible to people just trying to sit down and beat each other up with pokemons.
Yes, there's Smash for that.I really wanted to love the game on Wii U and thought I'd give it some love on the Switch, but there's so little reward for learning a game that looks to have a bleak future in the first place. They really could have pushed Pokken DX into the POP system with the switch being a portable console and all, it really feels like TPCi forgot about it until the past few months on their social media accounts.
>>42226540One or two at the most per generation as fighters, supports are fair game. I'd say as far as adding fighters as DLC goes, gen 8 gets a mandatory duo and then add two more left field non-traditional fighter pickups like Absol or Heracross and change literally everyone out for any sequels. The roster is not the problem with Pokken.
