Up until gen 3, I always tried to avoid having a starter as an 'ace' or my favorite, but Swampert is the fucking GOAT design. I don't even know what about it drew me in as a like, 12 or so year old playing Pokemon Ruby, it's just such a fucking menacing looking swamp monster. Its original sprite looks all chubby and tanky, but over the years, it's gotten more bulky.
