It's a totally tacked on format that isn't really meant to be played. The fact that 6v6 singles is the unquestioned standard format on Smogon kinda makes it clear that, as with all of their other policies, they're just kinda trapped by tradition at this point. It's completely bizarre that Smogon uses it, but they do (and ban a million things every gen to force it to work) so here we are, dealing with a cult of dullards who defend an inherently anti-competitive mode of gameplay.
