Performances had the trainer and pokemon working in tandem for amazing shows whereas contests were a full episode of people swinging around a ribbon and making sparkles or some other boring shit in the appeal round and then an entirely separate episode (or two, ew) where they have boring battles with sparkles, a life bar that makes no sense, and a timer that exists purely to keep Ash from sweeping every single one of them like Zoey said he would and like he did the one where he tied with may.
Find me a single contest with something with as much energy, synergy between trainer and pokemon, or creativity as this. I'll wait. All I can think of was ice aqua jet and that's not even close.
