It's not shaped like a mongoose, it's only Mongoose feature is that it likes to fight snakes.
The tail is way chunkier than Mongoose tails too, they have thin tails.
It's about the same bulk as wild cat species too, It's just shaped differently because it bipedal.
The truth is it takes aspects from both. It's also pokemon, so it doesn't even really need to look like any real animal.
