Bedtime fairytales of brave Sirfetch'ds slaying fearsome Salamences left Tanya feeling unsatisfied. As she snuggled in with her Mareep, counting it over and over in her head to fall asleep, she couldn't help but feel bad for the Salamence from the story. The poor thing was just misunderstood she thought. Tanya would come to love and care for dragon types and wants to show the world that they're not the fearsome beastly villains fairytales would lead you to believe.
I imagine her more of a type specialist than a gym leader like her brother, or maybe an alternate gym leader (kind of like a Clemont and Bonnie situation, but if Bonnie was an actual trainer). I could see her gym challenge being a sort of baking challenge where you have to choose the right ingredients and maybe play a little mini game (ala poffins, pokeblocks, or even something like cooking mama). The end result would be making a sweet to bring to Puck (whose softer side always shows around his little sister) only to find that he's not at his gym. Tanya would feel bad for wasting your time and battle you instead.
If she were to have her own dedicated gym, I'd imagine it to be a role reversed fairytale type of situation where the player has to climb a tower, battling knights (gym trainers) to rescue to the dragon princess at the top. The dragon princess's room and battlefield would be littered with cutesy pillows and stuffed toys, etc.
Anyways, hope I did you proud with this one.
