I did my first proper shiny hunt in Violet today, a Charcadet outbreak.
No herba mystica or shiny charm yet, I need to finish post-game and mass duplicate some ability patches because I'm still on 1.0.1 and cannot trade until I update.
They spawned in a favourable location that was easy to run back and forth in and with 1 in 1366 odds caught three shinies in the course of maybe 4-5 hours on and off.
The hard part was spotting them, the only difference is the blue eyes, so there was a bunch of approaching them to get them to turn towards me.
I caught them in a luxury ball (female), love ball (female), and poké ball (male).
The male was modest, so that one I'll evolve into Armarouge.
I'll probably evolve the love ball female into Ceruledge, and keep the first one as-is.
