>>29317978Allow me to further explain. Look at the pokemon in pic related. When you trade them with each other, one steals a feature from another. That's a cool idea, and they're cooler because of it. But if you take them away from that concept, they can still stand on their own. If you put them in a situation when they're unrelated to anything but themselves, they still have something going for them, because they're just plain cool to look at.
And that's how pokemon should be. Even when you miss the idea, you should still be able to just look at it, and appreciate it as a cool monster. When I was a kid, did I realize Remoraid was a gun, or that Espeon was a japansese cat demon? Of course not. But I still liked them anyways, because they have a good design.
What happens when you take that toucan away from it's precious idea? It has nothing fantastical about it. There's nothing to see here that you couldn't see before by google searching "toucan". When the only thing it has going for it is a reference to an obscure piece of trivia that you have to go on a scavenger hunt for (in a children's series mind you) is it really a good design?
