It's the same word the original uses for the item class "berries" in the games, which is why a lot of the berries look more like fruit: Some of them ARE fruit, but the English game needs to use a single word to refer to them all and chose to go with "berries".
Of course, in this episode it's used to refer to apples, not berries from the game, so the correct choice would've been to use "fruit" in the dub, but that's TPCi for you.
