I hopped into gen 3 with Emerald and I liked it more than the games I played as a kid. Catching Rayquaza and the Regi trio had a magical quality to them that I had gotten a taste for while playing jrpgs as a teen.
Gen 4 is the most nostalgic feeling for me because it was around the time in highschool where people stopped pretending to not like nerdy stuff anf it was okay to like Pokemon again so everyone was playing it. My buds and I studied TCG meta and did casual tournament runs.
I unironically think BW/B2W2 are the best in the series. Not only do I respect the artistry and mastery GF had over pixel art at the time, but I prefer it aesthetically to 3d. I also vibe with it's story as a duology both in game context and ludonarratively. I like the game feel and I think the mons are good. It has the best OST.
