First Gym Leaders from each region:
>Kanto: A younger man who takes his dedication to training seriously, perfect challenge for newcomers and veterans alike
>Johto: A kid who's only been a gym leader for a little while, but never the less takes his position seriously
>Hoenn: A master class student at the local trainer school, a little bit of group A and B from the former two regions, still takes her job seriously
>Orre(100% canon btw): One and only gym leader lets everybody train pokemon in the basement of his gym, even educates them if they have any questions or need tips. Challenges you with a double battle, making it the only other gym leader to do so other than tate and liza(unless you count totem battles in alola as "gym battles"). Perfect sparring partner and teacher
>Sinnoh: He's actually a miner, but since his dad is a gym leader himself, he feels like he needs to give it a shot as well. Not very good at it, like Roxanne Faulkner, but he's still learning
>Unova: Four different trainers, my my. In BW1, you get three flavors, based on your starter pokemon, to teach newcomers about elemental weaknesses, and let veterans experiment with their new toys this generation. In BW2, you get to meet a familiar face, see Roxanne, all 4 take their jobs seriously
>Kalos: A photographer? lolwhut
>Alola: A spoiled brat whose only defining characteristic is that he studied in kalos, and might be homosexual, that's it
>Galar: A midly retarded looking...gardnener? What is his personality? Oh wait, it's Sword and Shield, there is no personality. Football theming to the gym challenge is a bonus, but that also means that barely anyone gets any personality, since they all have to dress and act similarly
So overall? You shouldn't act surprised, Gen 5 was the last gen with good gym leaders, they went for muh waifu and overdesigned anime aesthetic after that. Orre had one gym leader, and I guarantee he is better than anything in SV that we will see
