I'm asking out of genuine curiosity. I've been super sceptical since it was revealed it doesn't have abilities, held items and you don't actually fight all the wild Pokémon, you just throw balls. Is this just another Pokémon game in the sense that it's easy as balls, but this time just an open world?
Thing is, Pokémon games have felt less and less interesting since fifth generation, and while I'd love to get back into them, I really don't feel that just by being open world the game would change enough to pique my interest.
And judging from the brief glimpses of gameplay I've seen, the actual game world seems not-so-interesting. I've seen mostly green plains with trees and some water, and no biome seems to be that interesting. I'd hate to just wander around throwing balls at random Pokémon and fighting the occasional trainer or boss Pokémon.
Is there an actual adventure? Like how does the world fare in comparison to that of Breath of the Wild, where the world has actually interesting and varying environments. BOTW was a blast to just wander around and finding stuff, but I'd lie if I'd say that PLA looks like it'd be fun to explore.
And how is the actual Pokémon hunting? I'd actually love if it'd be challenging and time-consuming to find them, but it seems they're just walking around and you just creep up on them and throw a ball and hope for the best. That's pretty far from what I'd like to see, like you having to traverse through challenging areas to reach an area where you MIGHT see a certain Pokémon and you'd actually have to battle it and so on.
And I'm not trying to be overtly critical, I genuinely do want to like this game. But I'm not convinced that it's worth 60 bucks. It seems like the world is a bit plain and the mechanics seem easy and a bit too casual. And that's the opposite direction from I've wished this series would take for the last 20 years.
