As a kid, I just powered through Gen I, II, & III with only damage moves with no concern for the inner workings of the series or status/buff moves
Now as an adult, I've started over my Emerald cartridge (which I never really played too much because I beat Sapphire) with a pre-planned balanced group of pokemon with the proper natures and EV training with a lot of thought for moves, coverage, and statuses for the Battle Frontier and it renewed a love in the series for me
I never cared for these things as a kid, but now it opens up a new side of the game for me. The Battle Frontier seemed stupid as a child because no EXP or monies, but now I realize those things are stupid and the actual challenge the frontier gives is a reward in itself, as the main campaign is just way too easy.
Now I actually want to complete the pokedex and get a gold trainer card
