You used to collect little graphics to put on your mons and the trailers chose not to show any of that so we can presume they just don't exist and died with the 2D pixel sprites.
That was the #1 thing that put Sinnoh contests above Hoenn contests or Unova musicals.
The rhythm game also got nerfed really hard and basically turned into a 1 button QTE for toddlers. The original had it where it was more like Parappa and you had to trip up your opponents by not only copying their rhythms, but making up your own. The Masters rank was genuinely tricky because of this, but it seems they're going the ORAS route of keeping contests dumbed down.
We also were not shown any of the poffin cooking minigame, they may have killed poffins as well.
I don't know how you could say anything about the contests looks "a lot more fun" than before unless you really never fucking even played the originals lol. Lots of missing or cut content.
