The first BW had 4 years of development time, and their sequels introduced many 'new' features in advance, like Join Avenue and Funfest Missions being a better version of Festival Plaza. They even had their own version of the O-Powers. Then there was other cool shit like dynamic music, seasons, medals etc.
It's no wonder Masuda considers them the masterpiece.
