Thats probably the only example I can think of, but the whole only 3-4 pokemon only with incomplete moves bullshit started around gen 5 and got dialed up to 11 in gen 6 because they wanted the casual audience that has a million different free mobile games to play if they get beat by a difficult in game trainer/gym/e4.
