alola was such a huge knockout in terms of region design. its probably the best region they've ever done. like it actually felt unique and interesting. i can't imagine being excited for galar after alola. i know some people are excited for galar but to me it just has nothing, NOTHING, on alola.
sad the games were awful. they should of made sure to do it right. i think with the boost from pokemon go hype, if handled properly right SM could have revitalized pokemon. galar doesn't really feel like its going anywhere.

I'm at 12:07, just to the second Island. I'm going slow and checking everything. I also spent a lot of time trading and breeding to get my team since most of my members come late.

I think what's really pleasing me about SM despite it not being out yet is that it's doing a lot to rip off the band-aid of a lot of things that held Kalos back as a region.

>Full gridless 3D and non-chibi models so everything looks more natural
>more detail on the overworld and nice touches like pokemon resting on rooftops
>gym structure is gone so the region is forced to design its points of interest better
>more in-depth lore is written for the Pokemon, some of which is reflected in game (like throwing the sea cucumbers back into the ocean being a playable sidequest and not just something you read on a website)
>regional variants of older Pokemon (although I wish they weren't Gen 1 exclusive) which also have their own Alola specific lore
>Evil Team plot is being heavily hinted to have more depth than usual with a potential heel turn happening
>more significant version differences like in Gen 5

The main difference between Alola and Kalos so far is that Alola actually SHOWS what makes it unique while Kalos just brags about how pretty it is while rehashing sequences wholesale from Gen 1.

I relate to that. Alola looks like it might be one of the comfiest regions yet, and I just genuinely can't wait to sit down and start seeing what it's like. I haven't been this excited for a region specifically... ever, now that I think about it. November is still so far away, it's torture.

What sort of new environment are you interested in seeing in the new region?
Personally I feel like there hasn't ever been a proper jungle if any so I'm hoping since it's a tropical region we will get a proper one this time around.
