So, what can be done to rectify these issues? Or what "should" be done? Obviously the answer to the latter question is "Nothing". Game Freak is a corporation, and as such they focus on one factor almost to the exclusion of all others: profit. If they want to keep making maximum money for minimum expense it is clear that they only need to continue with their current strategy. As long as the consumers are willing to continue supporting mediocrity, there is absolutely no reason for GF to improve. We have to face facts, the only way things will ever get better is if mainline Pokemon games just stop selling. I am not condoning boycotts or anything of that nature, mainly due to the fact movements like that revolve around the concept of abstinence. You are essentially abstaining from doing something you want to do when boycotting. The lowest common denominator cannot be expected to exercise the endurance necessary to maintain a successful boycott, therefore it is ultimately pointless. What NEEDS to happen is the consumers simply need to wake up and realize what they are paying for is no longer enjoyable. Pokemon games are shells of their former selves by every metric imaginable. Even the devs themselves have stated they are half-assing the post game content simply to fall in line with low consumer expectations.
