I live in a semi-rural town on the south-east and I've never seen one but I know they live in the forests and grassy areas in the town outskirts and the further you go from downtown the more you are likely to meet with one.
We have rattlesnakes and pic related here in the south-east. Rattlesnakes are more venomous but pic related is more dangerous because it is completely silent, camouflages well, stands it's ground aggressively and will bite multiple times if able to.
