This seems to be the biggie separating what made some of Gen 5's sprites "bad" and what made some of Gen 6+'s models "bad". Gen 5's were the jerky, stiff animations that happened way to quickly and were exaggerated in all the wrong ways. Gen 6's are stiff because they moe too slowly and not enough, making the Pokemon look halfway-asleep. At the very least some of the Pokemon in Gen 6+ have more than JUST the idles to fall back on in terms of animation and conveying personality, which is way more than you can say for the unlucky Gen 5 sprites.
