If they were to break bad, it's likely they'd end up as enforcers for some established team, like Gladion was, and climb their way up from there.
All it takes is the right whispers at the right time in the mind of a talented, misguided youth, and you have yourself a powerful new member. Team Leaders are all extremely charismatic so they'd manage it no problem—that doesn't mean the MCs are retards, it means the local team has a future Champion level trainer eroding their moral compass while running errands for them.
