If his Charizard can have flames on its tail, why can't he use other magical elements? Why is an animal that is perpetually on fire somehow more realistic than a real ghost?
He could've had a spectral Roman centurion wielding a Honedge-like sword, or even turned the cloth part into a giant tapeworm that swings around old swords that it finds. That would've been a creative take on an inanimate object that could be a "realistic" creature, while still retaining the inanimate object side of things.
Instead he turns it into literally my mom's bug.
