Gen 2's quirks and improvements over Gen 1 make it an enjoyable experience. From Gen 3 onwards the gameplay alone is enough to make it replayable. Choosing different starters and using different teams is why Pokemon is one of the longest lasting franchises, because every playthrough can be different.
