It's possibly the best the Pokémon anime has ever looked because they've prioritized expressiveness and movement over detailed lining and strict adherence to character models -- a side effect of this is more simplistic and more "elastic" character designs, and seeing this, a bunch of dopes who know nothing about animation and who're terrified by change got all up-in-arms. These same dopes'll endlessly post inbetweens as proof of SM's bad animation, not realizing that good inbetweens are usually warped and weird looking.
Plot-wise, I don't know -- it's probably about as shit as all the other Pokémon series.
