I pick up Ultra Moon every now and then and play a bit, still haven't finished the story. I know a good dozen people who play Pokemon, though none of em do it competitively and I can't really say how interested they are in gen 8.
If I wasn't such a weenie I'd jailbreak my 3DS and do some hex editing shenanigans to make the more recent Pokemons more interesting, I'd probably play more then.
