That's the only way to explain how Pokemon of such different shapes and sizes can successfully mate, how they can create so many eggs so quickly, how the eggs produce fully-developed and battle-ready offspring, etc. I bet they probably pop into existence too, rather than being laid.
Also, in both the games and anime, they produce bright flashes of light when they hatch, so there's probably some weird kind of energy involved with the whole process.
And of course, there was that guy in XY who said Pokemon eggs are not really eggs, but "cradles" (whatever that means). That suggests there's something strange about them that makes them different from how real-life eggs work.
