I really do wish Flareon wasn't screwed over the way it was since Generation 1. In this generation the only notable move they gave it as far as I know is Mystical Fire.
The most amount of success I've ever achieved using Flareon competitively was taking advantage of not only it's great physical attack but also it's useable 95 special attack via a crit set with Scope Lens + Focus Energy, then spamming Overheat and Superpower. I suppose you could use a similar version with Work Up and Life Orb, but at that point you would be doing yourself more of a favor by using a better Pokemon altogether.
I'm not optimistic that Flareon will ever be good in any sort of competitive use, but it's still one of my all-time favorite Pokemon.
