>Starters
I think Snivy with a smug, better than you kind of attitude fits perfectly with the Rival, while a more upbeat playful Tepig fits the childhood friend. Samurott just looks right as the MC starter.
>Early Pokemon
What better way to show the MC "potential" than by making his first catch a PKMN he has a type disadvantage against. Makes for an exciting first battle. Childhood friend and her upbeat Tepig befriend a Cottonee that joins them. Rival uses his type advantage against a bunch of Drillbur to easily defeat them, but the one that stood against him the longest, with its iron will impressed him and was caught.
>Bird
Honestly this could be anything, but I like the characters to each have a bird Pokemon just because. Mandibuzz vs Braviary easily illustrate the sharp differences between MC and Rival. Meanwhile childhood friend catches the more goofy Ducklet, which evolves into a majestic Swanna, sort of like how she is dismissed earlier as a poor trainer, but later blossoms into her true potential.
>Mienshao and Conkeldurr
This represents again the differences between the two characters, one values brute strenght, while the other prefers finesse.
>Others
Leavanny was caught around the same area as the rival caught the Conkeldurr, same for Darmanitan and Krookodile, showing them to be really close to each other as they journey along Unova. I just like Vanilluxe and Crustle for Bianca, IDK why.
>Fraxure vs Druddigon
Raising an Axew to a Haxorous takes a lot of effort, something only Bianca could do, meanwhile the rival would rather squeeze the most out of his mons for the most quick power, hence going for the fully evolved Druddigon. Eventually the Fraxure will become stronger, but like Swanna it has to blossom into it with patience.
