The original series is a VN trilogy (fully translated) with gameplay elements about a lad going on a journey for peace between humans and monster girls, with him encountering a huge variety of monster girls who try to rape him or worse along the way. It was a big phenomenon on /v/ back in the day.
Monster Girl Quest Paradox is an RPG spinoff currently in development (2 parts are out and are mostly translated). In an alternate history the protagonist sets out on a different journey, with the ability to recruit and form a party out of almost every named character. Most monster girls from the VN return, plus a bunch of new girls.
I would recommend Paradox, but playing the VN first is practically mandatory. You don't HAVE to, but there's loads of shit that you won't get without already being familiar with the setting and characters.
