As the amount of options increase, the amount of skill decreases.
Because you can pull gimmicks out of your ass (gimmicks that you can't counter with an average team), you end up beating players way more skilled than you.
Also, said gimmicks are getting more and more braindead to use, requiring no skill whatsoever - just play the pokemon on the field and suddenly you're putting pressure on the opponent without doing any effort yourself.
People say that the game is unbalanced and not fun and all that, but this one is the problem. Lowering the skillcap by adding too many easy to use strategies.
In competitive games, you should have to work to win. You can't just randomly move your Queen and expect to win in chess. You can't just play random cards and expect to win in Poker. Hell, even Blizzard's card game, another RNG infested game, is more tactical and competitive than Pokemon.
So remember this next time you complain about RNG..
