Gen 4 was the best, I like how enviroment was one of its themes (returning in Gen 7), Sinnoh and revisited Johto and Kanto put some good work in those, specifically Sinnoh since leading region for Gen 4 games but HGSS was the one that added the Pokemon interaction with the pecualiar game areas and between their types too, beside the trainer ones.
