I had one for a ground type. The first stage is a baby pokémon, a little baby rattlesnek with a baby's rattle at the end of its tail. The second stage would be some sort of cross between a copperhead snek, a cowboy, and a living lasso. Y'know, playing on all those Wild West tropes.
The third would be a ground/fire, sort of eviler pokémon that evolves with a fire stone. Not based on anything in particular, I just think a snek that yields lassos of fire would be cool. Kinda like Volvagia in OoT but without the arms.
Either way I'm sure we'll get a ground type desert snek soon enough, even if it's ground/poison or whatever, but I can't think of any other serpents they could make into pokémon.
