Sinnoh's world design was...Memorable, for better or worse. The game being so vast and full of weird caves and HM roadblocks made it hard for Japanese children to progress back then. Defog sections will lower your accuracy in Battle. All the Rock Smash/Strength/Rock Climb sections reinforce Sinnoh's rugged terrain. The blizzard around Mt. Coronet tries to replicate the experience of climbing a difficult mountain, with snow that slows you down and obscures your vision. There is even an HM hidden on the Snow Route 217 that you can completely miss. All of this led to subsequent games becoming easier to navigate, and makes Sinnoh unique when looking back. It's all a sharp contrast to subsequent games. All of which push you to your next destination or give you handouts to ensure your success.
