>>39556899Well, I'm learning as I go along. My first run ended because I accidentally loaded a much earlier save while trying to save. I had my first encounter against Roark in that run.
My second run is the one documented above, which got wiped at the Pokemon Mansion, but at least I got past Gardenia and Fantina, so now I now their tricks. I'll probably end up getting wiped at the fifth gym or something, but eventually I'll beat this game.
I just defeated Mars, and even though I knew her team, it still got Arnie. It's okay though, I only really planned on using him to get past Roark.
This is the team I'm about to grind with to defeat Gardenia, should do the trick pretty well.
Also, the starters are pretty good since they got new typings. Charizard is Fire/Dragon, Sceptile is Grass/Dragon, Meganium is Grass/Fairy, and Feraligatr is Water/Dark.
